This page is a tribute to F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18 Korea groundbreaking as they were when they first came. They signified a quantum leap in desk top computer flight simulation!
_______________
Forget all ridiculous, unrealistic computer games, compared to which the story of Little Red Riding Hood is a scientific thesis! There is only one computer game (or rather two) worth mentioning; the flight simulators F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18 Korea!
An F/A-18 Hornet heavily armed with 10 AMRAAM medium range radar missiles and 2 Sidewinder short range IR missiles in a high G turn over a carrier. By the way, did you know that almost all American carrier ships are nuclear powered and have a crew of approximately 6 000 men and women? A floating city in other words. They can cruise at max speed for 22 years before they need to refuel. One single carrier has more air power than the air forces of 70 percent of the countries in the world. US Navy has 12 such carriers. And one single F/A-18 Hornet, which is a strike fighter (a combined fighter and attack plane), can carry twice as much armament (bombs, laser bombs, missiles, rockets etc) with three times the speed of the famous WW2 Flying Fortress (B-17). In comparison the B-17 had 14 crew members, while the F/A-18 Hornet has only one. Besides, the Hornet can carry smart weapons (laser bombs, Maverick missiles etc), which will hit the target within less than a meter, while dozens of B-17:s had to drop hundreds of bombs to destroy a target. A hit within 300 meters from the target was regarded as a point blank direct hit in those days.
