Each time has its prevailing paradigms, i.e. overall encompassing patterns of thoughts, which define how observations and speculations are interpreted. There is not the slightest doubt that one of the dominant paradigms of today is the paradigm of evolution. The origin of everything that exists the Universe, life and all living creatures, including Man is here explained through a combination of chance and natural law (necessity). The evolutionary model, that originally only dealt with biological evolution, is now used to explain almost everything, or as the American philosopher Tomas Nagel expresses it:
Some can be tempted to offer, or at least imagine, an evolutionary explanation, which is the norm these days, for everything under the sun. Evolutionary waving is an example of the tendency to apply a theory, that has been successful in one domain, and use it to anything you don't understand and not even apply it, but vaguely imagine such an application.
The theory of evolution is generally regarded, in media and school text books, to be completely, 100 percent proven, beyond any reasonable doubt. Maybe a few gaps remain to be filled in. According to the general consensus the theory of evolution is no longer just a scientific theory, but an absolute fact, that cannot or should not be questioned. Every form of criticism is usually met with scorn, ridicule and contempt. Characteristic for the debate is that the evolutionists seldom counter the arguments from adherents to creation and intelligent design. Instead the evolutionists accuse the critics for being stupid, ignorant and dishonest. And sometimes evil. Surely there are unfortunately Flat Earth Society members among creationists, but there is also serious criticism from distinguished scientists, who has all the right to be taken seriously. In this section of my home page I discuss serious, scientific criticism of the theories that deal with the origins of the Universe, life and the different species. Whether I succeed in my attempt I leave to the honest and serious reader to decide.
Here you can read what a former evolutionist writes. I believe her story to be rather representative and that it gives a good picture of how obvious the truth of evolution is for most people, who have very little factual support for their stance. They believe in evolution just because everyone else does so.
